The day of his birth, Stallone's trademark smile was caused by a forceps accident. In the accident, a nerve was cut which caused his speech to become slurred. Stallone had a difficult childhood. Stallone, along with Frank the younger brother were both adversely affected during their childhood due to the tense relationship between their parents that eventually led to divorce. Stallone spent some of his earliest years living in foster homes. Stallone was five years old when he was sent by his father from the state of Maryland to Washington, D.C., and started his own beauty salon. Stallone has spent a lot of time in Maryland and was living with his father after 1957, when the couple divorced. Stallone struggled academically and emotionally and was eventually exiled from many schools.
